Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar fasciitis is the most common cause of heel pain. The plantar fascia is the ligament that connects your heel bone to your toes and supports the arch of your foot. Strain, weakening, swelling, or irritation of the plantar fascia can cause pain on the heel or bottom of your foot when you stand or walk. The pain usually occurs when you take your first steps after getting out of bed or sitting for a long time. Many people have less pain after taking a few steps, but their feet often hurt more as the day goes on. Less common symptoms include numbness, swelling, tingling, or radiating pain. Approximately 1 in 10 people will have plantar fasciitis at some point in their lifetime.
