Why should I see a Chiropractor?
For professional athletes and homemakers, engineers and electricians, children and seniors, chiropractic care has been the answer to improved health. Many people see a Doctor of Chiropractic for back, neck or joint problems, while others may seek relief from the pain caused by headaches. Still others find that regular visits to their chiropractor help keep them in peak condition for sports and other activities.
Should kids see a Chiropractor?
Many spinal problems seen in adults began as early as birth. Even so called 'natural' birthing methods can stress an infant's spine and developing nerve system. One of the most common reasons parents seek care for their child is trauma from an injury of some sort. These "fixated vertebrae" may or may not result in immediate pain or symptoms, but regular chiropractic checkups can identify potential spinal injury and make the correction early. Additional conditions commonly treated include (but are not limited to) colic, bedwetting, ear infections, allergies, and headaches.
How do I get an appointment with the massage therapists and how long of a wait is there to see them?
We currently have five certified Massage Therapists on staff. The Lakes Massage and Therapeutic Bodyworks, is directly connected to Family Chiropractic Clinic and provides a relaxing professional atmosphere for your massage. If you or the doctor feels massage would benefit your condition, the doctor will prescribe one or more visits to the Massage Therapists. Massage therapy appointments can usually be accommodated within one week's time. They do tend to fill quickly so don't delay making your appointment if you have a specific time you would like.
How long have Dr. Tom Holbrook, Dr. Jeff Hand and Dr. Jennifer Person been in practice?
Family Chiropractic Clinic has been serving the Brainerd lakes area since 1982. For more information about our doctors, see our About the Doctors page.
Can Chiropractic help pregnant women?
Women find Chiropractic adjustments very beneficial during pregnancy. Adjustments are gentle and comfort of the patient is kept in mind. In most cases, labor and delivery is much easier and the chance of back labor is diminished. There is also a strong correlation between being adjusted during pregnancy and healthier babies.
I am interested in acupuncture to help relieve pain. How does it work?
Dr. Tom Holbrook and Dr. Jennifer Person have both been extensively trained in acupuncture and often use it to relieve chronic pain. Acupuncture helps stimulate the release of the body's natural pain killers, called endorphins. It is nearly painless and uses sterile disposable needles. Ask one of our doctors if your condition could benefit from acupuncture.
I have osteoporosis. Can I be adjusted?
Yes, with low-force techniques that are specific for osteoporosis. Patients usually tolerate the treatment well and feel improved mobility and decreased pain. We also provide nutrition and exercise guidance.
Should I bring x-rays or records from another doctor?
Yes, most definitely. The more information you provide, the better. It will help the doctor make a more specific diagnosis, which allows us to provide the most effective treatment.
I need advice with my vitamin and exercise plans. Is a chiropractor trained to do this?
Chiropractors have an extensive training and background in nutrition and exercise. We can give advice specific to each patient's needs.
What education does a Chiropractor have?
Today's graduating Doctors of Chiropractic have studied and trained in a college or university for at least seven years. Just like medical or dental students, they must first complete undergraduate study before applying for admission to a chiropractic college. Chiropractors are a primary care provider just like your family physician, optometrist, or dentist. You do not need a referral from your medical doctor to see a chiropractor.
Do you take x-rays at your clinic? Can you order x-rays, MRI's, CT scans or other tests?
If your condition requires x-rays, we have hospital privileges at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd, Cuyuna Medical Center in Crosby, and Lakewood Hospital in Staples. We also can order MRI's and CT scans at these locations if your condition requires it. Some insurance plans will not cover these tests if ordered by a chiropractor: please talk to our staff or one of our doctors for more information.
Do you work with other doctors and specialists?
Yes, we work closely with other health care professionals, including medical doctors, physical therapists, and radiologists. Referrals are made when needed and our staff will help in any way necessary to provide the proper referral and treatment
