Chiropractic can help a wide variety of problems
Chiropractic is a branch of natural health care that deals with the nervous system through the muscular system and the skeletal system. All of the body's functions are controlled by signals passing through the nervous system. Thirty-one pairs of nerves carry messages from the brain, down the spinal cord, exit the spine and travel to various muscles, organs and other structures. When there is interference with nerves, the nerve cannot function properly, which then causes alteration in the function of organs, muscles, and other structures.
Chiropractors find the areas of interference in the spine and restore proper function to the nerve in question. An area of interference or restriction within the spine is called a subluxation.
A Chiropractor then applies an adjustment to the restricted vertebrae in the spine causing the interference and restores proper function, allowing the body to heal itself.
This is not confined to the spine alone. Extremity joints, such as the elbows, wrists, and ankles, also get restricted or subluxated. Adjustments to these areas restore proper motion stopping the interference to the nerves in question.
Therapies are also used along with the adjustment. Therapies are used to promote soft tissue healing, thereby speeding up healing time and helping prolong the effects of the adjustment. Examples of therapies used in our clinic include, ultrasound, electric muscle stimulation, massage and therapeutic exercise. The type of therapy used depends on your specific condition.
We can help more than just back and neck problems. Please see our interactive Nerve Chart for more specific information on each nerve and what it goes to.
Infants and toddlers receive care for conditions such as colic, ear infections, bed wetting, growing pains and youth athletic injuries. Subtle trauma during childhood will affect the future development of the spine, leading to impaired nervous system function. Any interference to the vital nerve system will adversely affect the body’s ability to function at its best.
One of the most common reasons parents seek care for their child is trauma from an injury of some sort. These fixated areas may or may not result in immediate pain or symptoms. Regular chiropractic checkups can identify potential spinal injury from these traumas, making the correction early in life, to help avoid many of the health complaints seen later in adults.
Working adults often experience problems with repetitive stress from sitting for long amounts of time, working at computers, repetitive lifting, or long hours standing. Chiropractic care can be very effective for treating carpel tunnel injuries, stress, arthritis, disc conditions, menopause symptoms, problems with shoulders, etc.
Chiropractic care is also very safe and effective for seniors. Chronic conditions associated with the process of aging, such as degenerative arthritis, circulatory disorders, constipation, depression, balance and coordination problems, osteoporosis, and joint stiffness may all benefit from corrective spinal adjustments. Treatment relieves pain, decreases stiffness and muscular spasms, increasing mobility and range of motion.
